Daniel Defoe was born in 1660 in London.He was third child of his family.He spoke six languages without studying in the university.Because he was a Presbyterian, he was forbidden to attend Oxford or Cambridge. Defoe began writing fiction late in life while he was about sixty years old. He published his first novel,Robinson Crusoe,in 1719.He followed in 1722 with Moll Flanders.Both works are between journalism and fiction.
Daniel Defoe wrote novels,pamphlets and thousand of essays during his lifetime.Defoe ‘s works are similar to Jonathan Swift ‘s style.He wrote essay on business,biographies,short stories and poems including his famous “The True-Born Englishman”.ln 1685 Defoe had participated in the Monmouth Rebellion against James ll.So he was put in prison.During his imprisonment he wrote “Hymn to the Pillory” Then he wrote Moll Flanders in 1722.
Robinson Crusoe was based on the true story.This story is about a seeman named Alexander Selkirk.This novel has simple narrative style.Robinson Crusoe was the man of middle class.The story of Robinson Crusoe has a very clear plot.lt is about a young man disobeying his father and going out to sea to explore the world.He experienced many problems.Namely,the story mentioned the advantures of Robinson Crusoe on a island.
